NASA wants a Ka-band relay successor

NASA Marshall Space Flight Center posted the final solicitation for the Network Extension for User Continuity and Sustainability Ka-Band Backward-Compatible Relay, a Broad Agency Announcement under NextSTEP-3 Appendix E. It closes on August 4. The current text is UPDATE 13, which notes two administrative errors on the export-controlled Attachment A.2, the NEXUS Service Requirements Document, as posted with the Amendment 01 update.

This one fits commercial relay operators and anyone who has been tracking the succession of NASA's own communications network. The short window before the closing date favors teams already reading the amendments. Worth an hour even for readers who will not bid, because the requirements document shows what backward compatibility is being asked to mean.

The company move

SpaceX board republished as flights continued

SpaceX entered the record with 175 listings this week against 2,028 removals, of which 2,026 landed on a single day. Our note says removals concentrated that way usually mean the employer republished its board rather than closed this many job listings, so we treat it as source behavior and not as a hiring signal. Blue Origin had 190 listings first seen and 229 removed, with the largest single day at 57.

On the flight side SpaceX flew Starlink Group 17-52 on August 1 and NROL-95 on July 30, both successful. Astranis shows no new listings and 95 removed, all on one day.

The money

Two NASA awards and several stake disclosures

NASA signed $8.7M to Axiom Space Inc on July 28 for Exploration Extravehicular Activity Services, and $800K to Creare LLC on July 29 for the Venus Mass Spectrometer Wide Range Pump for DAVINCI. Those two awards make up the $9.5M committed this week.

On the ownership side, Vanguard Capital Management LLC disclosed stakes in Rocket Lab, Virgin Galactic and Honeywell Aerospace on August 1. BlackRock, Inc. disclosed stakes in Spire Global, Virgin Galactic and Voyager Technologies on July 31. York Space Systems filed a 4 on August 1, Moog filed an 8-K on July 31, and Intuitive Machines filed two 4s on July 30. Momentus fell 14 percent over the week.

The launch record

Four flights, no failures, small slips

All four flights recorded this week were successful. SpaceX flew Starlink Group 17-52 and NROL-95. China Aerospace Science and Technology Corporation flew Long March 6A with TJSW-27A and B on July 30 and Long March 7A with Tianlian 3-01 on July 29.

Schedule movement was mostly minor. Starlink Group 17-52 slipped one day on July 30 and moved within the day twice before flying. Starlink Group 17-53 slipped one day on the same date. Vega-C with Sentinel-3C and FLEX slipped four days on July 31 and went from TBD to Go. Eight launches are scheduled in the coming week.
